To celebrate the launch of several new Twinings flavours, High Tea Society joined 10th generation Twining, Mr. Stephen Twining for a little tea appreciation soiree.
He shared with us along with other tea lovers the rules for drinking tea. And as someone who drinks a minimum of nine cups a day, who are we to argue with his rules.
Rule 1: Enjoy your tea however you wish.
Rule 2: Adding sugar to tea is barbaric.
Rule 3: If you enjoy sugar in your tea, refer to Rule 1 again.
I guess it’s safe to say, you can enjoy your tea anyway you like. Lucky for us, he did also share some helpful pointers about tea brewing:
Milk first or second? While historically milk was added first when pouring from a teapot, it doesn’t matter when you add your milk, as it doesn’t impact the flavour.
Teabag or loose leaf? Again neither of these has any bearing on flavour. Many will argue that loose leaf taste better but that’s because we tend to allow the tea to brew properly in a pot. Most people (and I am guilty of this too) would jiggle their teabag to colour the tea but not allow the flavour to develop. Mr. Twining suggests we all be patient and let the teabag brew.
And finally always use fresh water when boiling your kettle.
The three new Twinings teas are Assam Bold and two Infusion flavours, Blackcurrant Ginseng & Vanilla and Blueberry, Apple & Rosehip.
Happy tea drinking!
